S.A.S.S.I. Volunteers

Overview

The Douglas County Sheriff's Office Safe and Secure Seniors Inspection (S.A.S.S.I.) Program is made up of volunteers that provide home security inspections and education to Douglas County residents 55 years of age or older. The objective of this outreach program is to make contact with our elderly population, offer home security inspections, educate them on current crime prevention techniques, offer resources, and get feedback that will enable the Sheriff’s Office to better serve the community.

Volunteers in this program must be self-motivated, flexible and work well in teams of two with limited supervision. Patience and a desire to help others are beneficial qualities for this position. The ability to communicate well, articulate what is needed, and be detail oriented are essential qualifications. Volunteers selected for this position must be willing to learn and demonstrate knowledge of Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (C.P.T.E.D) and how it is applied. Training will be provided by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Must be supportive of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, its mission, and comfortable working within a law enforcement environment.
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse client base.
  • Respect for government agencies and programs.
  • Commitment to maintain strict confidentiality and integrity.
  • Willingness and ability to pass a thorough background check.
  • No history of felony or violent misdemeanor arrest.
  • No history of drug use or abuse.
  • Ability to perform assignments.
  • Be a productive member of good standing in the community.
  • Possess a good moral character.
  • Must possess a valid Oregon driver's license, current insurance, and an excellent driving record.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

Work is performed primarily outdoors. May require bending, crouching, walking over uneven ground, gripping with hands and fingers, hearing voice conversation, kneeling, pulling, pushing, reaching, standing long periods, stooping, and twisting body. The work setting may include exposure to cleaners, dust, solvents, grease, water, pollen, fumes, and outside temperature extremes.
