Community Liaison Volunteer

Overview

The Community Liaison Volunteer Program involves civilian volunteers who have an interest in law enforcement and would like to assist the Sheriff's Office by providing a variety of outreach services to the community. 

Volunteers assist with department outreach tables at crime prevention/community policing events and safety fairs. They deliver the Sheriff's Office Community Newsletter to various communities around Douglas County.  They interact with the public to enhance the communication between the Sheriff's Office and the communities we serve.  Volunteers in this program also assist with child safety seat inspections, child fingerprinting events and home security education for the elderly.

Volunteers must be self-motivated, flexible and work well independently.  Patience and a desire to help others are beneficial qualities for this position.  Volunteers must have an open, non-judgmental attitude towards the public.  Willingness to ask questions and seek clarification are beneficial qualities for this position. 

Minimum Qualifications:   

• Ability to work effectively with law enforcement.
• Positive and supportive attitude with people of all backgrounds.
• Possess good public speaking and presentation skills.
• Capacity to work well independently with limited supervision.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and integrity.
• Willingness and ability to pass a thorough background check.
• No history of felony or violent misdemeanor arrest.
• No history of drug use or abuse.
• Ability to perform assignments.
• Be a productive member of good standing in the community.
• Possess a good moral character.
