The National Weather Service is forecasting significant rain over the next few days and into the weekend. As a result of this forecast, the Weather Service is also forecasting significant rises in small streams and rivers. Stream and river gage information can be found at www.co.douglas.or.us/streamreadings/streamsnws.asp or www.water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=mfr .

The South Umpqua River at Roseburg is forecast to rise 10 feet by Saturday morning. The North Umpqua River at Winchester is forecast to also rise 10 feet by Saturday morning. Small streams will fluctuate more rapidly as the forecasted rains move into and depart the County area.

As of this date and time no rivers or streams are forecast to flood. Residents, especially those that live along streams and rivers, should remain vigilant of changing weather and stream forecasts. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind residents that live along these streams and rivers to be aware of the conditions, and to secure any property that they may have in the river or stream couriers (pumps, boats, etc.). It is also a good time to review your personnel preparedness and to understand at what water levels your property may become flooded, or when your access to and from your property is jeopardized due to rising water.
