On February 03, 2014, at about 1400 hours, a motorist reported an abandoned vehicle in the 3500 block of Boomer Hill Road. The Oregon State Police responded to the initial call and found a 2004 Toyota Celica parked in the roadway with no one around. The vehicle was registered to Keith Ramos of Tumwater, Washington.

Troopers checked the area and found footprints leading over the edge of the road and into the forest. OSP requested assistance from the Roseburg Police K-9 unit who tracked the footprints to a small pond. Officers found discarded clothing along the way and indications that someone had recently entered the pond.

Troopers requested assistance from Douglas County Search and Rescue who conducted a search of the area. The search was suspended at nightfall and as snow began to fall on the area.

This morning, the Douglas County Search and Rescue team continued the search. Divers checked the pond and ground searchers combed the area. Today at about 1200 hours ground searchers found Keith Ramos about 300 yards from the pond laying in a drainage. Ramos was only wearing a jacket and underwear.

Ramos was suffering from severe hypothermia and was transported to Mercy Hospital for treatment. At this time it is unknown why Ramos abandoned his vehicle and walked off road. The case is still under investigation.
