On Saturday, June 22, 2013, Roseburg Police Department attempted to arrest a male subject who was jumping on vehicles near the Douglas County Courthouse. During the arrest the subject had a medical emergency and died at the scene.
Next of kin has now been notified. The name of the deceased subject is Gregory Allen Price, age 56, of Sublimity, OR.
Gregory Price had been arrested the previous day (06-21-13) by Douglas County Sheriff’s Deputies at the Diamond Lake Resort. The deputies initially responded to a report of a disturbance between Gregory Price and his wife. After arriving at Diamond Lake the deputies arrested Gregory Price for Reckless Driving. Deputies found he had been driving his vehicle in an extremely unsafe manner to include driving in between cabins and in pedestrian only areas.
Deputies transported Gregory Price to Douglas County Corrections where he was lodged. The next day (June 22, 2013) his probable cause affidavit was reviewed by a Circuit Court Judge and he was released for lack of probable cause. Soon after his release, it was reported that he began jumping on moving vehicles on Douglas Street in front of the Douglas County Courthouse. These acts lead to the response by two Roseburg Police Officers. While the officers were taking Gregory Price into custody, they found he was no longer breathing and CPR was started.
The investigation into his death is continuing. An autopsy is scheduled for later this week.
