On Friday, May 31, 2013, at approximately 1730 hours, Deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash on Old Melrose Road.
Sprouse, driving a Silverado Pickup Truck, and Ganzini, following him on a Harley Davidson Motorcycle, were traveling north on Old Melrose Road when as they were exiting a sweeping corner, Ganzini attempted to pass. This section of road is designated as a no passing zone and clearly marked with a double yellow line. Traveling south at this same time and location was Ishibashi in a Subaru wagon. Ishibashi pulled onto the shoulder of the road to avoid the collision but it was unavoidable.
Ganzini collided with the drivers side front fender of the Subaru wagon sending both Ganzini and the unmanned motorcycle back into the path of Sprouse's pickup. Sprouse then struck not only the unmanned motorcycle but Ganzini as well.
Ganzini was life flighted to Sacred Heart where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.
Ishibashi was transported to Mercy Hospital where he was treated for a broken ankle.
Sprouse sustained no injuries and drove his vehicle away from the scene.
Both the motorcycle and Subaru were towed from the scene by Dave's Valley Towing.
Case under investigation.
