On January 23, 2013, at 1515 hours, the 911 center received a call from a woman reporting her husband, Josiah Goldberg, had been assaulted with an ax by their 24 year old son, Hunter Goldberg. The woman told dispatchers that she was driving her husband to Mercy Medical Center because he had lacerations to his face and was bleeding.

Deputies contacted the victim at Mercy and learned that Hunter Goldberg lives at the same residence as his parents in the 600 block of Rio Ness Lane. Josiah Goldberg was sitting in a chair in the living room of the residence when Hunter came into the room and attacked Josiah with an ax, striking Josiah several times in the head. Josiah was able to fight back and took the ax away from Hunter. Josiah Goldberg was treated for severe facial lacerations and released from the hospital.

Deputies also responded to the residence on Rio Ness Lane. They attempted to make contact with Hunter Goldberg but he would not respond. After about one hour, deputies saw Goldberg moving inside the residence. Deputies made entry and took Hunter Goldberg into custody without incident.

Hunter Goldberg was lodged in the county jail on Attempted Murder and First Degree Assault charges.
