On Monday, April 16th, 2012, a rancher in the Tenmile area of Douglas County located items of clothing and identification for Clayton Pankey. Clayton Pankey had been reported missing in March of 2009. The rancher reported the finding to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

A search of the ranch was conducted by members of the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Douglas County Medical Examiner’s Office, Douglas County Search and Rescue, Roseburg Police Department, and the Oregon State Police.

Human skeletal remains believed to be those of Clayton Pankey were recovered in the area of the clothing and identification. The remains and clothing were transported to the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office in Clackamas for positive identification and analysis.

On Friday, April 20, 2012, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office was notified by the Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office that the human remains were positively identified as those of Clayton Pankey through the use of dental records and forensic examination.

The Sheriff’s Office Detective’s Division is continuing their investigation.
