The Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics is scheduled to run through Douglas County on Tuesday, July 12.

Local officers will carry the “Flame of Hope” for Special Olympics Oregon through Douglas County on Tuesday, July 12. Law Enforcement Officers from Myrtle Creek Police Department, Winston Police Department, Roseburg Police Department, Sutherlin Police Department, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and Oregon State Police will be participating to bring awareness to Special Olympics and the upcoming State Summer Games.

There will be a handoff ceremony on the Courthouse steps at approximately 12 Noon. Representatives from all law enforcement agencies, including Special Olympics, will be at the Courthouse for a brief media event.

The community is welcome and encouraged to come out to support and cheer on the runners.

Here is the route and approximate times of the handoffs:

At 7:00 AM on Tuesday July 12th, Myrtle Creek PD is going to start their runner from South Myrtle Creek and they are going to run to the MP 113 interchange at Highway 99 and I-5.

At about 8:15 AM Myrtle Creek PD is going to handoff to Winston PD team. Winston PD is going to run the torch through Winston on Highway 99 and Highway 42. They will handoff to Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) at Grant Smith Road at approximately 10:30 AM.

DCSO will run up Highway 99 where they will hand off to Roseburg PD at Southgate.

From Southgate, RPD will run to the courthouse steps where they are going to do a handoff on the steps. A few blocks before the Courthouse, a couple of Special Olympics athletes will be dropped off to run with the RPD runner to the Courthouse. The handoff time at the Courthouse steps is going to be, approximately between 12 Noon and 1 PM.

From the courthouse steps, RPD will continue running up Stephens (Hwy 99) with two more Special Olympic athletes for a few blocks. RPD will handoff to OSP at the intersection of Edenbower and Hwy 99.

OSP will run up Hwy 99 to handoff to Sutherlin PD at Calapooia in the curves South of Sutherlin. Sutherlin PD will run to 6th and State where OSP and DCSO will continue to run the torch north to the Lane County line.
