On May 19th, 2011, at about 1950 hours, a deputy contacted Ashley Meng by telephone regarding a complaint about his neighbors tearing up a shared roadway with an ATV. Meng was told that because the road was an easement, it was a civil matter and deputies could not take action. Meng became upset and threatened that he would shoot the subjects and hung up the phone. The deputy called Thomas Correa's (the neighbor) residence to warn him of the threat but no one answered. A message was left.

About 4 minutes later the the Douglas County 911 center received a call that a man had been shot in the 100 block of Decoy Lane.

Deputies responded and found that Correa had been shot one time in the left hip with a shotgun. Deputies identified Meng as the shooter and transported him to the Sheriff's Office in Roseburg for an interview.

At the conclusion of the interview, detectives placed Meng under arrest. Meng resisted arrest and he was taken into custody after a brief struggle. During the struggle, one detective hurt their hand and wrist and another received a broken ankle. Both detectives were taken to Mercy Hospital where they were treated and released. Meng was uninjured.

Meng was lodged in the county jail on Attempted Murder, First Degree Assault, Assault on a Public Safety Officer and Resisting Arrest charges.
