On July 13, 2010, at about 1910 hours, the 911 center received a call reporting a male subject who was pulled under water by the current while swimming.

Sheriff's deputies, the Glide Fire Department and Fire District 2 Water Rescue responded to the location which was on the North Umpqua River at Cable Crossing, approximately mile post 22 on the North Umpqua Highway.

Four adult friends (listed above) had been swimming at the location. Terry Trembley had just floated down a small rapid into a larger pool when he began to swirl around in the current. He asked for help and Austin Clark attempted to pull Terry out but the current was too strong. The current pulled Terry under water, separating him from Clark.

At about 2037 hours, rescuers located Terry Trembley's body at the bottom of the river in about 20 feet of water. Fire District 2 recovered the body at about 2130 hours.

None of the swimmers were wearing life jackets.

Next of kin has been notified.
