Subject: Winston Man Arrested on Felon in Possession of Firearms Charges

Within the past month, the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Detectives Division received information that a convicted felon was selling guns from LOP Sports / Three Guys Thrift Shop, in the City of Winston. The business appeared to be primarily a dealer of ATV’s, as well as a second hand resale store.
An investigation into the report was initiated and it was found that Avrom Sander Finkel, age 69, was operating the businesses, and that he was in fact a convicted felon. Detectives learned that Finkel had been previously found guilty in a federal court for mailing a destructive device to severely injure a Nevada State Trooper in 1993.
On May 10th, a search warrant was executed at LOP Sports / Three Guys Thrift Shop by Detectives from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, who were assisted by the Douglas Interagency Narcotics Team, and the Winston Police Department. Seized from the business were over 40 firearms to include: assault rifles, WWII battle rifles, handguns, shotguns, rifles and ammunition.
Avrom Finkel was arrested at the business without incident, and lodged at the Douglas County Jail on 43 counts of Felon in Possession of Firearms.
No other persons who were associated with the businesses appeared to be involved in the gun sales.
