On February 3rd, at about 0020 hours, deputies responded to the Kelly's Corner Chevron gas station to a report that a male subject had left without paying for gasoline.
A male subject had received a tank of gas and when the attendant walked to the driver window to get payment the male subject started to drive off. The attendant grabbed onto the window frame of the vehicle as it was driving away. The male subject accelerated causing the attendant to tumble on the ground. The attendant received minor scrapes to one of his arms.
Based on the vehicle description and description of the driver, deputies identified the suspect as Michael Gould. Deputies later located Gould's vehicle at a residence in the 12000 block of Hwy 99 South but they were unable to locate Gould.
On February 4th deputies spotted Gould driving the same vehicle, a gray 1989 Nissan two door, on Hwy 99 South near M Street. Deputies attempted to stop Gould but he fled onto Hwy 42 and then south on I-5. Deputies pursued Gould south on I-5 at speeds in excess of 100 mph. At about mile post 110, the Myrtle Creek Police Department deployed spike strips. Gould attempted to avoid the strips and crashed into the freeway center divider. Gould lost control of the vehicle and swerved off the freeway and up the embankment on the west side of the freeway. The vehicle rolled onto the drivers side.
Gould was taken into custody without further incident. He was lodged in the county jail on charges of Attempting to Elude, Reckless Driving, Parole Violation and Third Degree Robbery (from the gas station incident). Gould was not injured.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted by the Myrtle Creek Police Department and the Oregon State Police.
