On Saturday, October 3, 2009, Search and Rescue teams located human remains thought to be those of John Swearingen.

Swearingen was first reported missing by his nephew Daniel Swearingen on August 11, 2009. Swearingen had been living in an RV park Myrtle Creek and was reported, by relatives, to be despondent leading up to his disappearance. On August 26, 2009 John Swearingen’s vehicle was located on Forest Service Road #3230, 14 miles east of Azalea. The remains were located about 700 feet from where Swearingen’s vehicle was parked.

This was the fourth time that search crews were in the area searching for Swearingen. Positive identification is pending from Douglas County Medical Examiner.

Next of kin have been notified.
