The Sheriff's Office is investigating the suspicious deaths of at least two dogs who died suddenly after being in the area of Elk Creek near it's confluence with the Umpqua River in Elkton.
On August 21st, Robert Pistone reported that he had been fishing in the area with his two dogs. After only a short period of time, both dogs began vomiting and convulsing. One of the dogs died at edge of the river and the other died in Pistone's car on the way back to Eugene.
Law enforcement has checked the area but have not been able to locate any likely substances that could have caused the dogs death. A water sample has been taken and is being analyzed by DEQ.
The Sheriff's Office is recommending that people avoid the area while they continue to investigate the incident.
