VEHILCE #1 1993 Geo Storm (Driven by MCDONALD)
VEHICLE #2 2005 Toyota Camry (Driven by BRATTON)

NOTE: THIS IS A DUPLICATE ISSUE OF THIS PRESS RELEASE FOR EMAIL RECIPIENTS AND THE DCSO WEBSITE.

On Thursday, June 5, 2008 at approximately 1932 hours, deputies responded to a traffic accident on Nonpareil Road just east of the Sutherlin City Limits. Deputies found a 2005 Toyota Camry in the middle of the road facing eastbound in the westbound lane. The other vehicle,a 1993 Chevy Geo Storm, was found in the ditch in front of 4958 Nonpareil Road.

Paula MCDONALD was pinned inside the vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The deceased was transported by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Medical Examiner to the County Morgue.

Scott FEHRN and Valerie SAUNDERS were in the back seat of the Geo Storm. Both sustained injuries and were transported to Mercy Medical Center. Wade BAIRD was not injured. Karen BRATTON was also not injured. All parties are believed to have been wearing their seat belts. Deputies are investigating whether alcohol may be a factor in this accident.

Deputies determined the Geo Storm had been traveling eastbound on Nonpareil Road and crossed over the center line striking the 2005 Toyota Camry. The Geo Storm traveled in the opposing lane of travel before leaving the roadway striking a culvert and becoming airborne.

Sutherlin Police Department, Sutherlin Fire Department and Fair Oaks Fire all responded to the scene.

Next of Kin has been notified.
