Peace Officer Memorial Day 2014

Published: 4/24/2014

In 1962, President John F. Kennedy signed a proclamation which designated May 15th as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week in which that date falls as "Police Week". Every year since, tens of thousands of law enforcement officers from around the world converge on Washington, DC to participate in a number of planned events which honor those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

Each May, in recognition of Peace Officers Memorial Day, the Sheriff’s Office hosts a ceremony to honor officers who have given their lives while serving the citizens of Douglas County. Everyone is invited to join us in paying tribute to those who have made such an incredible sacrifice, while ensuring the safety of others.

The 2014 Douglas County Peace Officers Memorial Day ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 15, 2014, at 0900 hours on the Courthouse steps. All law enforcement officers, their families and the public are invited to attend.
