K-9 Receives Vest
Published: 12/9/2008On Tuesday, December 2nd, the Umpqua Valley Humane Society presented Kilo, a Sheriff's Office K-9, with a ballistic vest. Theses vests typically cost over $800.00 and help protect the K-9 from gunshot and/or stabbing injuries.
Kilo's primary mission is to locate illegal narcotics within the jail facility. He is also utilized on search and rescue missions and tracking wanted persons on criminal investigations.
The Sheriff's Office would like to recognize and thank the Humane Society and others who help keep the K-9 program running with their generous contributions.
In February of 2002, Seven Feathers purchased Kilo for $5,000.00. Kilo was a trained narcotics and tracking dog.
Kilo's veterinary care has been provided by Bailey Veterinary Clinic since 2002.
The Douglas County Farmer's Co-op provided Kilo with food for the first year.
Several of the Court Security Deputies donated money to purchase basic supplies for Kilo including harnesses, leads, and kennels.
