On Monday, March 4, 2002, at about 0930 hours, Mary Boyle reported an abandoned vehicle parked on her property, located at the end of Otter Slough, Reedsport. A run of a DMV check on the license plate revealed that the vehicle was registered to a Robert Samuel Cook, Sr., born in 1928.
A deputy contacted Lt. Ed Stallard, with the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office, and requested him to attempt to make contact at the residence Mr. Cook listed on his vehicle. Lt. Stallard made contact with Mr. Cook's son, Robert Cook, Jr. The last day Robert has been experiencing Alzheimer-like conditions and has been found lost on several recent occasions.
On March 3, 2002, members with the Douglas County Search and Rescue K-9 Unit, US Coast Guard, and employees with Bureau of Land Management were deployed in the area of Otter Slough to search the area in hopes to obtain any information or the whereabouts of Mr. Cook.
