On November 16th, the Oregon Peace Officers Association (OPOA) held their 38th annual awards banquet in Newport Oregon.

Among the award recipients was Douglas County Sheriff's Office Corrections Deputy Katrina St. Clair. St. Clair, who has worked for the Sheriff's Office since September of this year, received a Life Saving Award for her actions during the 2007 Douglas County Fair.

On August 7th, 2007, St. Clair, a Myrtle Creek Police Department Reserve Officer, was working security at the fair. St. Clair and her partner were walking through the food court when a man ran up to them with a 10 month old baby in his arms. The man was screaming that his baby was not breathing.

St. Clair, who has had first aid training as a volunteer of the Camas Valley Fire Department, checked the baby's airway, then delivered back blows until the child started breathing. St. Clair kept the baby's airway open until an ambulance arrived and transported the baby to the hospital.

15 other law enforcement officers from around the state were given the life saving award for 2007.

St. Clair was nominated for the award by her former Chief, Don Brown of the Myrtle Creek Police Department.
